NSE: Market index rises by 0.53%

Equity trading activities on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) rallied to close on a positive note on Tuesday with the All-Share Index rising by 202.11 basis points or 0.53 per cent to close at 38,255.86, up from 38,053.75 Monday's close.

Similarly, the market capitalization of the listed equities gained N65bn or 0.53 per cent to close at N12.236tn from N12.171tn the previous day.

The NSE-30 Index was also up, rising by 0.32 per cent or 5.73 basis points to close at 1,768.15, up from 1,762.42 Monday's close.

In all, investors exchanged 786.399 million shares, worth N4.853bn in 5,211 on Tuesday.

At the close of activities, 29 stocks recorded price appreciation, while 35 had price depreciation.

Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc topped the gainers' table with a gain of 41 kobo or 10.25 per cent, which saw it close at N4.41 per share.

It was followed by Oando Plc with a 10.23 per cent or N1.31 appreciation in share price to close at N14.12 per share.

Eterna Plc and Unity Bank Plc gained 8.39 per cent and 5.88 per cent to close at N3.36 and 0.54 per share, respectively, while Trans-nationwide Express Plc rose by five per cent or six kobo to close at N1.26 per share.

On the flip side, Costain (West Africa) Plc recorded the biggest loss for the day. It fell by 8.54 per cent or seven kobo to close at 75 kobo per share.

It was followed by MRS Oil Nigeria Plc and NPF Microfinance Bank Plc, which fell by 6.98 per cent and five per cent to close at N52 and 76 kobo per share, in that order.

Presco Plc also shed five per cent or N1.90 to close at N36.10 per share, while GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nigeria Plc lost five per cent or N3.35 to close at N63.65 per share.
