We must remember whose children we are,' Obiano tells Anambrarians
As the countdown to the final hour for the gubernatorial election in Anambra State begins, the APGA flag-bearer in the race, Chief Willie Obiano has called on the people of the state to remember the liberating influence of their compatriots on the rest of Africa in the pre-independence and vote for the only candidate that can sustain the state's steady march to greatness in the Saturday poll.
In a speech titled; Ndi Anambra, Remember the Children of Whom we are,' which he made to a section of the media in Awka recently, Chief Obiano argued that as the voting day approaches, all Anambrarians must remember who they are and the peculiar heritage they carry.
Said he: 'As Anambrarians, we are fully aware and fiercely proud of who we are and the heritage we carry as a people. We know whose children we are. If it took Nnamdi Azikiwe's wisdom to sow the seed of Africa's independence in Ghana, it will also take only one of our own people to change the story of Anambra State and make it a story of greatness.'
Explaining that he left his comfortable retirement after 30 years of a glorious career to ensure that the state does not lose the momentum it has gained in development indices after 8 years of progressive leadership under APGA, Chief Obiano maintained that he was in the race to make sure that Anambra gets a chance it deserves to attain its manifest destiny.
'Ndi Anambra, anyi bu ife (we are the light). We must shine for the rest of Nigeria to see the way,' he argued and further pointed out that at this moment in time, what Anambra needs is a man of vision and passion to build a superstructure on the impressive foundation that the Peter Obi administration has laid in the state.
Harping on the need for sustained efforts on development, the APGA candidate averred that every great and enduring effort in history requires the commitment of leaders who are passionate about their community.
'The efforts of the founders of America, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, James Madison, John Jay, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson and George Washington would probably not have amounted to much if there were no worthy successors and inheritors who fought relentlessly to give meaning to their dreams. Let me assure you here that Dr. Nkem Okeke and I are fully prepared to give our best to Anambra State,' the APGA candidate declared.
According to him, all the questions of how the current progress made by the state can be sustained are effectively answered in his Blueprint which revolves around what he calls the Anambra Wheel of Development that seeks to catalyse development in the state through Trade & Commerce, Industrialization, Agriculture and Oil & Gas.
Chief Obiano bemoaned the fact that a state with the promises and prospects of Anambra has yet to realize its full potentials and argued that only a sure-footed leadership by thoroughbred professionals like himself and his deputy can give the state a chance at greatness.
'Nkem Okeke and I have gone through the mills of our different professional careers and we are ready to make our experience count for the good of Anambra State,' he said.
