Jonathan appoints new heads of agencies, parastatals

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday approved the appointment of former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Dr Ahmadu Ali, former Senate President Ameh Ebute, among others to boards of 20 government parastatals and agencies.

The appointment announced in Abuja by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim indicates that Senator Ebute would head the governing board of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN); while Ali is appointed to be Chairman of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Also appointed to head boards are Mrs. Yejide Ogundipe, National Board for Technical Education and Adamu Waziri, Federal Polytechnic Birni Kebbi. Bala Kaoje is to head the Board of Federal College of Education (Tech) Gusau and Chief Yinka Akintola is to head Nigerian Press Council.

Herbert Orji is appointed chairman National Broadcasting Commission, while Prof. Tunde Adeniran is to head the West African Examination Council. Others are Prof. Nelson Branbayefa to head National Council for Arts and Culture, Prof. Greg Iwu heads Teachers Registration Council and Pastor Yusuf Alfa Federal Polytechnic Bali.

Meanwhile, the appointment of Dr. Aminu Ladan Sharehu as director and chief executive of the National Teachers Institute Kaduna (NTI) with effect from the 1st of February, 2013, Engineer Habu A. Gumel as executive secretary/ chief executive officer of the National Lottery Trust Fund for a second and final tenure of four years, with effect from December 1, 2013, and Mrs. Taiwo Theresa Akande as the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti for a second and final tenure of four years with effect from December 9, 2013.
