By Ibrahim-Gwamna Mshelizza

The secretary to the Borno state Government (SSG) Ambassador Baba Ahmed Jidda has said that the proposed National Conference will give Nigerians the opportunity to discuss areas of their difference and chart a course or way forward for the nation.

Ambassador Jidda who was also member of Nation Political Reform Conference and National Constituent Assembly in 1988 said that contrary to some peoples view that the conference will divide the Country,it will rather give Nigerians opportunity to chart a new course for the nation.

He said “Nobody would go to the conference with a motive to call for the division of the country but rather discuss way of resolving our differences.”

The SSG appraised the call by the chairman Northern Governors Forum Alhaji Babangida Aliyu that North will participate in the conference, stressing that Nigerians need to dialogue.

He however, cautioned President Goodluck Jonathan not to dump the report of the proposed national conference as it was done by the past governments, adding that issues that requires referendum should be done while those that need the attention of the National Assembly for rectification should be sent to the Assembly.

On the issues of massive defection of the members of the People Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressing Congress (PDP) in Borno, he said their defection is not surprising as, the PDP leadership in Borno has failed to provide good leadership to its followers.

He said most of the decampees were attracted to the new party by the people oriented leadership and provision of dividends by the Governor Shettimas administration despite the security challenges, adding that more PDP members are expected to join APC soon.
