UNITY BANK: CBN confirms Abraham Executive Director

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has confirmed the appointment of Mrs. Aisha Azumi Abraham as the Executive Director, Secretariat and Services Directorate of Unity Bank Plc.

The appointment was contained in a letter to the bank dated 2nd October, 2013 from the office of CBN's Director   of Banking Supervision, Mrs. Tokunbo Martins.

Mrs. Abraham was before her new appointment, the Divisional Head, Secretariat and Quality Management, a designation she held while being the Company Secretary. In her new position she will oversee the Corporate Services and Quality Management Divisions as well as the Company Secretariat Department; while maintaining her position as Company Secretary.

She has a rich experience in legal practice spanning solicitorship, university lecturing and company secretarial practice. She was a Senior Partner in Baiyee, Abubakar & Co where she was involved in the setting up of small scale businesses.

Between 1985 and 1986, Mrs. Abraham was a Graduate Assistant in the Faculty of Law, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. She was in the Legal and Company Secretariat Department of NAL Merchant Bank Plc (now Sterling Bank) between 1986 and 1988, Credit & Marketing Department of Ivory Merchant Bank in 1990, and Company Secretary/Legal Adviser of Shelter Savings & Loans Limited 1992 – 1994.

She was also one of the pioneer Directors of Urban Development Bank of Nigeria (now Bank of Infrastructure) in 1992 and Company Secretary/Legal Adviser of First Interstate Bank Plc 2002 to 2006. She was the Project Secretary and the Secretary to the Steering Committee and Committee of Directors of the Banks in-consolidation that became Unity Bank Plc.

She has been the Company Secretary of Unity Bank Plc from inception. Mrs. Abraham obtained an LLB degree from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1982 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1983 .

The newly formed Secretariat and Services Directorate is strategically positioned to be at the forefront of the bank's strategic resolve to deliver best-in-class service in all areas to all its stakeholders in line with its new vision to be Nigeria's retail bank of choice.
