PDP crisis: Peace meeting to reconvene after Muslim, Christian pilgrimage

President Goodluck Jonathan today met with representatives of G-7 governors of the New Peoples Democratic Party, and other governors loyal to him and Bamanga Tukur led PDP, to resolve the lingering crisis in the party as planned.

The media were barred from coming close to the venue of the meeting held at the First Lady Conference Room, which ended shortly before 2 p.m.

Jointly reading out the communique at the end of the meeting, Governors of Niger and Cross River State, Babangida Aliyu and Liyel Imoke, said the meeting would be reconvened after Muslim hajj and Christian pilgrimages, even as both parties restated their commitment to peaceful resolution.

The communique stated that:
“Sequel to the meeting held on the 15th of September and in line with the agreements reached at the meeting, the governors met with the President, Vice President and the Chairman of the board of trustees, with apologies from the Governors of Jigawa, Sokoto and Adamawa, who had traveled for the Hajj.

“The meeting which was cordial, resolved that inspite of the unfortunate events that arose after the meeting of 15th of September, the parties remain committed to the resolution of the differences

“The meeting agreed to continue to take steps towards implementing the resolutions agreed to at the previous meetings

“In view of the above some of the governors it was resolved that the meetings be reconvened shortly after the Muslim hajj and Christian pilgrimages are concluded”.

Other aggrieved governors present were, Kwara State, Abdulfatah Ahmed, Rivers State Goevernor, Rotimi  Amaechi and Kano State Governor, Rabiu  Kwankowso.

Others  loyal to the President’s camp were Kogi State Governor, Idris Wada, Akwa Ibom, Godswill Akpabio, and Katsina State, Ibrahim Shema.
