Nigerian telecoms subscribers have been alerted to stay clear of a website promising free credit bonus from the industry regulator.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) issued the disclaimer warning that that its attention has been drawn to the website on www.nccnew.com claiming to belong to the telecoms regulator that has been promising airtime credit bonus from NCC to mobile phone users.

According to the regulator the alleged fake website has been circulating a message asking phone users to sign up their lines to benefit from the free airtime bonus.

NCC said the message reads thus: 'This line has free N90,000.00 Airtime Credit Bonus from NCC, just sign up on www.nccnew.com to load it now. PUK number 2525, you have just 2 hours'.

While warning phone users to be wary of the fraudulent message, NCC said that the message did not emanate from the regulator nor is the website affiliated to the agency or any of its branch offices across Nigeria.

'This is a fraudulent message and it is not from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) or any of our branch offices nation wide. Kindly ignore this message', the regulator's disclaimer said.
