Israel-bound Christian pilgrims from the South East will be airlifted from the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, said the Executive Secretary, Nigeria Pilgrims Welfare Commission, Mr. John-Kennedy Opara.

Opara, who announced this during a courtesy visit to Anambra State governor, Mr. Peter Obi, told the governor that the decision was in response to his request. He also disclosed that the number of officially approved pilgrims for the state has been increased to 500.

Opara also informed the governor that President Jonathan would lead Nigeria's Christian Pilgrims to the next pilgrimage in Israel and has invited Obi to accompany him to the Holy land.

He thanked the governor for providing the State Christians Welfare Board with a vehicle and office accommodation, even as he commended the governor for what he described as humility that has inspired many. He noted that his laudable achievements and passion for developing the state has endeared him to his people.

Responding, Governor Obi said his administration would continue to sponsor under-privileged individuals to pilgrimage for spiritual uplift and would encourage privileged individuals to assist those who were spiritually rich to visit the Holy Land to cement their faith.

He commended President Jonathan for his dedication and commitment to the transformation of the country.

The Chairman, State Christian Welfare Board, Levi Muonanu, gave the assurance that preparation for this year's pilgrimage is on course.
