Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and seven governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) moments ago announced the formation a new faction of the party.

The PDP leaders had about an hour ago stormed out of the party’s special national convention holding at Eagle Square, Abuja.

At a press briefing moments ago by a former acting national chairman of the party, Alhaji Kawu Baraje, the new faction announced Prince Olagunsola Oyinlola as national secretary.

The press briefing was attended by Atiku, Rotimi Amaechi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwanso, and Murtala Nyako, governors of Rivers, Kano and Adamawa States respectively.

Also in at the briefing were Babangida Aliyu, Sule Lamido, and Abdulfatah Ahmed, governors of Niger, Jigawa and Kwara States respectively.

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had penultimate week registered Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM), a very influential association under which prominent northern politicians, including Atiku, cut his political teeth.

The former Vice President had however insisted that he remained a PDP member, and would not defect to PDM.
