Prof. Ben Nwabueze: An Enigma

Governor Peter Obi has challenged the present generation not to allow the legacies and hard work of the older generation, like Prof. ben Nwabuze to waste away.

He said the honour to him was a deliberate policy of the Governemnt to honour distingisuhed Anambra people and present them as role models for the youth to emulate.

Governor Obi was speaking at public presentation of a book on life, works and time of the renowned constitutional lawyer and former Secretary General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Prof. Ben Nwabueze at the Women Development Centre, Awka at the weekend.

The Governor recalled that the older generation with merge resources was able to build schools, hospitals and other institutions that stood the test of time.

He regretted the high level of greed in the country and warned that no society can survive under such unbridled quest for material wealth.

Governor Obi said the life and contributions of Prof. Nwabueze are valuable assets that should be honoured and celebrated and later unveiled the two volume book with three million naira.

The Special Adviser to the President on Inter-Part Matters, Senator Ben Obi said Prof. Nwabueze remained the first authority in constitutional law in the entire Africa whose works have made impact in the continent.


On performance of Governor Obi, Senator Obi noted that the Governor had set a standard future administration should maintain by doing what the people of the State desired.


The Chairman at the occasion and Traditional Ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe described the writer as a legend of the time, an intellectual and a fearless patriot who has the courage of speaking and standing by the truth no matter the circumstance.


A former Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife noted that Prof. Nwabueze provided leadership to Ohaneze Ndigbo for many years.



In his speech, Prof. Elochukwu Amaucheazi said the ceremony was celebration of intellectualism, scholarship and noted that Prof. Nwabueze has great passion for Constitutional democracy and respect for the rule of Law.


Reviewer of the book, an erudite scholar, Prof. Michael Echeruo explained that the book was an honest expose on the strength and weaknesses of the write and highlights the prize people pay for not reading.


Responding, the writer, Prof. Nwabueze thanked the Governor for organizing the ceremony and extolled his humility and simplicity as well as respect for the elderly which he said Ndigbo should emulate.
