Technical problem: Lufthansa plane makes air return

By The Citizen

A Lufthansa Airlines' flight going to Frankfurt from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Saturday night made an emergency air return after the plane developed technical problems midair.

It was learnt that the aircraft had travelled for about two hours before the fault was detected by its pilots.

When contacted, the Media Consultant, Lufthansa Airlines, Mr. Hakeem Jimoh, said the air return was to ensure safety of lives and property.

He said, 'Yes, the return was for safety reasons. It (the aircraft) returned to run some checks because there was a technical problem, and in order to be sure, the plane had to come back.

'The flight came back around 11pm, so the plane flew for about one hour. The departure time was 10pm, and it was a normal Lufthansa flight from Lagos to Frankfurt, Germany.'

Jimoh said that passengers were rescheduled to fly on Sunday night, adding that they were lodged in Lagos.

'The passengers were taken to the lounge and the waiting area of the airport. They were finally taken to a hotel where they spent the night for it is important to always put safety first no matter what. Of course, we regret the inconvenience, but safety must be given priority in this business,' he added
