By Idris Katib

The Islamic Mission for Africa (IMA), Abeokuta, Ogun State has once again advocated for peace and national unity among different religious divides in the country.

The call was made during its 1434 AH Ramadan public lecture under the topic “Towards Attainment of national Unity and Development: Islamic Perspective”, delivered by the Guest Speaker, Sheikh Sulaiman Faruq Onikijipa.

Onikijipa exalted the founder of the Mission, His Excellency Prince Bola Ajibola, a former judge of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for returning, full-time, to the service of God and humanity after his international legal assignments.

Sheikh Onikijipa stressed that the Prophet of Islam enjoined the Muslim Ummah on political, religious and social unity, noting that this abounds in all pillars of religion like Solat, Zakat, Ramadan fasting and holy pilgrimage to Makkah.

He said essence of congregational prayers, fixed period of pilgrimage and charity (zakat) in Islam were rooted in unity preached by the Holy Book, samonising that that is why congregational prayers in Islam attracts 27 rewards while undergoing same alone attracts only one reward.

In his speech, Judge Ajibola chided those killing in the name God, citing the recent free medical health check of IMA Hospital to patients irrespective of religious backgrounds “as an encouragement to good healthy living among ourselves”.
