Stock market index rises by 0.31%

Trading in equities continued on strong note on the Nigerian Stock Exchange yesterday, as more investors took position on stocks.

Specifically, the All Share Index rose by 0.31 per cent to close at 37,128.40 points, compared to the increase of 0.61 per cent recorded the preceding day to close at 37,014.14 points.

Market capitalisation gained N3bn to close at N11.75trn, lower than the appreciation of N7bn recorded the preceding day to close at N11.72trn.

The Insurance index led the sectorial indices with 1.43 per cent to close at 142.29 points, followed by the Oil and Gas index with 1.41 per cent to close at 175.69 points.

The Industry Goods index rose by 1.12 per cent to close at 2,280.12 points, while the Lotus Islamic index appreciated by 0.40 per cent to close at 2,592.93 points.

The NSE 30- index and the Banking index gained 0.25 per cent and 0.20 per cent to close at 1,743.04 points and 413.14 points respectively.

The Consumer Goods index shed 0.02 per cent to close at 1,037.92 points while Alternative securities market index remained flat.

Mobil Oil Plc led the gainers' table with N10.71 or ten per cent to close at N117.81 per share, followed by Airservice Plc with 39 kobo or 9.26 per cent to close at N4.60 per share.

IPWA Plc appreciated by six kobo or 8.70 per cent to close at 75 kobo per share, while Custodyins Plc gained 11 kobo or 7.43 per cent to close at N1.59 per share.

Cornerstone Plc closed at four kobo per share, up by 63 kobo or 6.78 per cent. On the flip side, John Holt Plc lost 13 kobo or 8.39 per cent to close at N1.42 per share, while RT Briscoe Plc shed 11 kobo or 6.71 per cent to close at N1.53 per share.

Red Star Express Plc declined by 25 kobo or 5.11 per cent to close at N4.64 per share, while ABC Transport Plc dropped five kobo or 4.03 per cent to close at N1.19 per share. Evans Medical Plc fell 13 kobo or 3.74 per cent to close at N3.35 per share.

A total of 213.2 million shares valued at N3.22bn were traded in 5,812 deals.
