…Says insurgents now use taxis to abduct girls in Maiduguri

SAN FRANCISCO, June 30, (THEWILL) – The Joint Task Force in Borno State, Operation Restore Order, yesterday revealed the latest tactics of the Boko Haram sect, saying the group has now resorted to kidnapping teenage girls on the streets of Maiduguri, the state capital.

JTF, which also disclosed that the insurgents, have, in the last 10 days, kidnapped three girls through their new trick, however said all the girls have been rescued by JTF troops.

Making the disclosure weekend, a statement issued on Sunday by JTF spokesman in Borno, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa, said "information available indicates that Boko Haram terrorists have started using taxi mostly, Volkswagen Golf or Toyota Starlet cars with a driver and usually one deceptive passenger in the car soliciting for passengers along major township roads and highways to kidnap teenage girls.”

The statement said "In view of this ugly development, the JTF wishes to alert and sensitise members of the public of this Boko Haram terrorists method of kidnapping citizens, particularly girls and young women.”

According to Musa, “Three teenage girls were at different times and places kidnapped in Maiduguri metropolis in less than 10 days using this method as a decoy. Luckily, all the kidnapped girls were rescued by JTF troops and handed over to their parents with an advice to be careful on the kind of vehicles they board, particularly on routine township shuttles."
