A psychiatrist at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, Biodun Idowu, said on Saturday that more women were falling into mental depression due to increased marital challenges.

Mr. Idowu, who made the assertion while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Osogbo, said 'there are now more cases of women suffering from mental depression.

''Investigations point to the fact that many young career ladies are pressed to get married, while those married are struggling to keep their homes.

''There are cases of many of them suffering from insomnia due to long prayer sessions and night vigils.

''Many mentally challenged people are said to be suffering from spiritual attacks, when in actual fact they are suffering from ailments induced by sleeplessness.''

He said that while most men let out depression through social gatherings, women kept emotions bottled inside them.

Mr. Idowu urged women not to be ashamed to seek counsel or psychiatric assistance before they suffer emotional breakdown.
