Obi Advocates Sensitization for the Success of Cashless Society

Governor Peter Obi has called for proper sensitization of the people on the call for cashless economy exercise which takes off in the state next month. Governor obi was speaking when the deputy Governor of Central Bank in-charge of operations, Mr. Tunde Lemo led the CBN team on a courtesy call to the Governor's Lodge yesterday. The Governor said a cashless society holds a great promise to the future of country's economy as it will enhance efficient business transactions and reduce corruption.


He however stressed that all segment of the State shall be well informed on the process to avoid a backlash. According to the Governor, without proper sensitization, people may become apprehensive which he warned may lead to rise in prices of goods, while others may withdraw totally of using bank services because of failed bank experiences.


Governor Obi promised to organized workshop for them to enable the bank reach out to the, accordingly.


The Deputy Gov of Central Bank, Mr. Lemo said that Anambra State had fundamental role in the cashless economy because of her strategic position as the commercial nerve centre of the country.


He explained that the exercise will, among other things, enhance payment system maturity, reduce the huge amount spent on processing cash, discourage kidnap, robbery and other kind of crime and vices, reduce leakage and boost internally generated revenue of the State and country


The Deputy Governor who commended the Governor for fiscal prudence and fiscal responsibility assured him that the Bank would carry out adequate sensitization of the people.
