Former Governor and PDP BOT Secretary Detained By EFCC Over Fraud

San Francisco Feb 22, (THEWILL) – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Monday morning in Abuja invited and detained Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu, a former governor of Nasarawa State over financial impropriety and theft of public funds during his tenure as governor.

Adamu who was governor between 1999 and 2007 and current Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP was detained at about 10 a.m. for granting various fraudulent contracts estimated to be around N15 billion naira.

The former governor is accused of awarding an unexecuted contract to Faslan Ventures Limited in the sum of N71, 708, 479 for the construction of an engineering complex at Nasarawa Polytechnic in Lafia, another contract for the design and construction of a one storey library for N99, 784,800, contract for the construction of chalets at Farin Ruwa Fall, including the provision of water, overhead tank, electricity and landscaping for N100 million, and a contract for the construction of an administrative block at Nasarawa Polytechnic awarded to Kaigama Construction Co. Ltd for N34,082,700.

Other contracts awarded include the provision of floodlight, electronic score board, extension of VIP stand, installation of stand by generator and a generator house at Lafia Stadium at N299, 701,689, though 95% of contract sum was paid upfront, the amenities were not provided. He is also accused of paying N1.5 billion naira for building and equipping three hospitals even though the contractor did not adhere to the terms of the contract.

EFCC sources say the commission is ready to prosecute Adamu in court.
