SECURITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE CONCERNING CTE D'IVOIRE REVISES GUIDELINES

NEW YORK, June 3, 2013/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1572 (2004) concerning Côte d'Ivoire adopted revised guidelines for the conduct of its work on 24 May 2013.

The main purpose of this revision was to bring the Committee's guidelines in line with the provisions contained in Security Council resolutions 2045 (2011) and 2101 (2012). To that effect, paragraphs 19, 20 and 21 of the revised guidelines, which deal with exemptions to the arms embargo, have been modified.

In this framework, paragraphs have been added to the revised guidelines reflecting the provisions contained in paragraph 3 and 4 of resolutions 2045 (2011) and paragraph 4 of Security Council resolution 2101 (2012) on notifications and requests for exemptions to the arms embargo.

It is the hope of the Committee that the revised guidelines will serve as a better tool for its own work and provide useful guidance to Member States in their implementation efforts.

The revised guidelines can be found at the Committee's website: http://www.un.org/sc/committees/1572/index.shtml.

A note verbale from the Chairman of the Committee officially transmitting the revised guidelines to all States and relevant international and regional organizations will follow shortly.
