Libya: security and transition topped debate with Prime Minister Ali Zeidan

BRUSSELS, Kingdom of Belgium, May 28, 2013/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- Internal security in Libya, the protection of its borders to prevent arms trafficking in the region and the Libyan constitutional process were key issues discussed by Foreign Affairs Committee MEPs with Libya's Prime Minister Ali Zeidan on Monday.

"We want to establish a robust democratic framework and we can benefit from your experience in this respect," the prime minister told MEPs, reiterating that the constitutional process should not take more than "six to eight months".

The role of the EU's forthcoming border security mission to Libya in helping to prevent arms smuggling from the country, the need for strong representation of women who played an important part in the Libyan revolution, relations with neighbours and the need to step up the recovery of frozen Libyan assets in the EU were among other questions raised by the MEPs.
