Chime approves N1.5 Billion for renovation of district hospitals

The Enugu State Government has approved the sum of over One billion naira (N1,505,939,643) for the total renovation and upgrading of the seven District Hospitals in the state.

The State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Chuks Ugwoke who announced this while briefing the Press at the end of the State Executive Council meeting chaired by the Governor, Mr. Sullivan I. Chime said that the hospital are located at Udi, Awgu, Enugu Ezike, Ikem, Agbani, Nsukka and Polyclinic Enugu.

According to Mr. Ugwoke the renovation work which will be done through direct labourr and in phases, will include construction of new hospital complexes in all the hospitals, renovation/construction of laboratories and mortuaries, as well as gate houses, water boreholes, fencing and staff quarters.

He explained that at the end of the renovation exercise, the District Hospitals will be upgraded to the standard that they would be able to train House Officers and provide qualitative and affordable healthcare services to the people.

Mr. Ugwoke also told the press that council also approved over three hundred million naira (N309,273,195.00) for the construction of bridge across the Ebonyi River along the 28.3 kilometer Ugwogo - Nike - Neke - Ikem road.

The commissioner stated that the standard concrete new bridge will replace the existing dilapidated old one-lane bailey bridge across the Ebonyi River to be in line with the ongoing massive reconstruction of the 28.3 kilometer road project..

The road project awarded to Amitec Construction and Development Nigeria Limited will include construction of a 45 meter long three span standard concrete bridge on the road.

The Information boss stated that the council also approved over three hundred and six million naira (N306,040,333) for the procurement and installation of stainless reflecting safety guide posts on some selected roads in the state capital to enhance traffic safety of road users.

They included four thousand, six hundred and six (4,606) meter length of Korean-made Stainless design fence with reflectors and three thousand, two hundred and seven (3,207) pieces of Korean-made reflecting safety guide-posts.

According to the Commissioner, the Stainless Bridge reflectors will be installed along Zik Avenue Bridge, Central Police Station (CPS) to Mgbemene Roundabout to Akwata, Christ Chemist Roundabout to Railway Crossing after Holy Ghost Cathedral and the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army road.

The Reflecting guide posts will be installed along Presidential road extension, Nkpokitti street triangle 1 and 2, Nkpotiti Centre Median, Egbuna Roundabout and Bisalla by New Haven junction.
