APGA HELD POWERFUL STATE CONGRESS IN OKA

An epic ,well organised ,super attended All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Anambra state congress were held today at WOMEN AND CHILDREN,S Convention center Oka, laying to rest the seeming squabbles within the leadership of the party in the state.

A prayer said by Mrs Njideka Ofor kicked off the congress.Motions for the Convention to hold was called for by the Chairman of the CONVENTION committee ,Prince Chinedu Emeka former Deputy Governor under Mbadiuju,the motion was moved by Mike Okaka and seconded by CHIEF BEN OBI ,MBUZE AGULU who is also IGWE APGA .


Chief Egwuoyibo Okoye, a lawyer and former member of the State Assembly from Nnewi South local government in the South Senatorial zone emerged the Chairman of the party in the State,after another nominee stepped down for Chief okoye.


Chief Shedrack Anakwe from Awka North in the Central Senatorial zone was elected state Deputy Chairman.

Mr. Chukwuemeka Meze, a lawyer from Anambra East local government area in the North Senatorial zone was elected APGA state Secretary.

APGA had conducted its Wards and Local governments respectively two days before the State Congress.

The National Convention earlier slated to held in Enugu, the Enugu state capital on April 8, but, which had been relocated to Awka had already been approved by the INEC.

A letter from the INEC conveying the approval of the electoral body for the APGA " congresses nationwide as well as national convention" was addressed to the party's "Chairman Pro-Tempore All Progressives Grand Alliance, Suite 028 Lozumba Complex, Area 10, Garki, Abuja and signed by the Secretary of the Commission, Abdullahi. A. Kaugama.

Entitled, "Re- Notice of National Convention Pursuant to Section 85 of the Electoral Act 2010 ( as Amended) reads " Please refer to your letter on the subject respectively dated 11th March 2013 and 28 March 2013. This Commission has noted the scheduling of your party's congresses nationwide as well as the National Convention scheduled to hold on 8th April, 2013, at Women Development Centre, Awka, Anambra State. The Commission will monitor the congresses as scheduled by your party".

In compliance with the directives of the National Headquarters of the INEC in Abuja the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Chukwuemeka Onukaogu led many other senior staff of the Commission to the Women Development Centre, Awka venue of the State Congress to monitor the exercise.

Several members of the party spoken to expressed happiness about the peaceful conduct of the party's state congresses saying that with the successful installation of a democratically elected leadership of the party at all levels in the state the road to the party's victory in the forth-coming state's gubernatorial election has been thoroughly smoothed.

The member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency and Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Afam Ogene said that the outcome of the congresses had shown that the party was not actually factionalized stating that it was merely disagreement among members.

Honourable Benson Nwawulu, Ogbaru 11 of Anambra State Assembly expressed happiness with the peaceful conduct of the Congresses.

Chief Ben Obi commended the successful conduct of the party Congresses saying that the exercise marked the first time the party was installing its leaders through due processes. He said that all the past leaders of the party at all levels -national and states -had always been appointed and that the arrangement had not given the party the desired leadership. Obi said that those who emerged through appointment like the ousted National Chairman of the party, Chief Victor Umeh always wanted to appropriate the party as a personal enterprise and would not allow for the enlargement of the leadership of the party.

Present at the state congress were Governor Peter Obi, his deputy, Mr. Emeka Sibeudu, former Health Minister and member of the party's Board of Trustees, Dr. Tim Menakaya, Reps members for Ogbaru federal constituency, Awka fededrderal constuency, Nnewi south, Nnewi North and Ekwusigo federal constituency, Honourables, Victor Ogene, Emeka Mogbo and Chris Azubuogu respectively, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Princess Chinwe Nwaebili, former Reps member for Ihiala federal constituency, Mr. Chuma Nzeribe and former deputy Governor Chinedu Emeka who was incidentally the chairman of the congress committee,Prof Dora Akunyili was at the high table,with Attorney General of the state Hon Peter Afuba,others including Prof Chinyere Okunna,Dr Uju Okeke,Sir Callistus Ilozumba,Joe Martins Uzodike and lest of the Commissioners with all the 5 National assembly members ,excerpt Uche Ekwunife . Other were members of the state Executive council as well as delegates from the various local governments and Wards in the state.

The Only Apga officials not in attendance are mostly SIR VICTOR UMEH AND MIKE KWENTOH .
