IARB goes global with e-learning

By Wynne Evans

The International Academyof Retail Banking's successful professional education programme today goes global with the introduction of e-learning modules that will enable retail bankers anywhere in the world to study for the Academy's examinations.

IARB's aim is to educate retail bankers around the world to a high professional standard, focussed on an ethical customer-oriented approach. Since its establishment in 2011, bankers in more than twenty countries have already benefitted from the Academy's programmes and live classroom sessions have been held in London, Johannesburg, Abu Dhabi, Kuala Lumpur, Lagos and Cairo. IARB has partnerships with numerous national and regional banking academies, including: LPPI in Indonesia, EIBFS in UAE, FITC in Nigeria, Egyptian Banking Institute and the Arab Academy for Banking and Financial Sciences.

Welcoming IARB's expansion via the introduction of e-learning, Michael Lafferty, co-chairman of the Academy, said “The availability of the Academy's modules via e-learning is a natural progression as banks worldwide recognise the increasingly important role of retail banking and the need for a high level of professionalism, coupled with an ethical approach. This is the future. IARB is leading the way in teaching bankers not just the skills but also the values behind the delivery of ethical and profitable retail banking.”

The e-learning process has been designed to fit in with people's busy work schedules and provides a fully interactive educational system. Online study resources include the provision of coursework materials, video lectures and podcasts, interactive presentations of module content, live and recorded exam preparation sessions and sample examination papers.

Mr Lafferty said “It is important that we make the Academy's programmes accessible to the widestpossible range of students worldwide and this is a most effective means of doing so at a relatively low cost to the banks and their employees.”
