Statement by Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Chairperson of the African Union Commission on the announcement of the results in the Kenyan elections.

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, March 11, 2013/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The African Union Commission salutes the people of Kenya for the successful and peaceful conclusions of the elections. By turning out in their millions, they have made the people of Africa proud and have secured the Kenya they want.

We especially congratulate the President-elect, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, the Vice President-elect William Ruto and the Jubilee Coalition for being declared the winners in the elections. We salute all participating candidates and parties for their contributions towards this important democratic process, held under Kenya's new Constitution.

We also congratulate the Independent Electoral and Border Commission, for conducting a complex electoral process. We encourage those who have raised concerns with the electoral processes to continue to do so through legal processes.

The AU Commission and indeed the people of the continent are proud of the achievements of the Kenyan people, and are certain that you will continue to maintain calm and peace.

As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the OAU and AU and the 50th anniversary of Kenya's independence this year, let us take forward the spirit of Pan Africanism and the African Renaissance.
