Esu River corpses: Chime lauds constitution of committee

Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State has commended the Federal Government for instituting a committee to investigate the incident of floating corpses at the Ezu River.

The Governor gave the commendation through the state Secretary to Government, Mr. Amechi Okolo when the committee paid a courtesy call at the government House, Enugu.

Governor Chime  affirmed the readiness of the government and the people of Enugu State to assist the committee in its investigation to expose the perpetrators  of the ugly act.  He noted that the corpses are Nigerians, adding that government and the people should not fold their hands for such ugly actions.  In his words 'whatever is  our obligations will be done to ensure that the perpetrators are exposed.

Governor Chime called for an exclusive interactive between the committee members and relevant agencies in the state with a view to finding out the root cause of the incident.  Earlier in their separate speeches, the leader of the committee were also the chairmen Senate committee on Police Affairs and National Security and Intelligence that made the committee , Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu and Mohammed Mogoro called on the government and people of Enugu State to assist the committee in finding out the root cause of the ugly incident.

 
They noted that the Senate constituted the committee to find out the root cause of the floating corpses at the river with a view to forestalling future occurrences.

According to them, the corpses had homes and relations that should be traced with a view to finding out what happened to them.

They  said that they had made a similar visit to Anambra as the river affected the tow states and had interacted with the  government and people of the state who had made useful statements.

The committee called for the co-operation of the people of Enugu State to enable it get to the root cause of the incident.

In an interview, one of the committee members Senator Christ Ngige disclosed that eth result of the autopsy conducted on the corpses would be made known in a couple of days.  He expressed hope that the committee had the needed tools to actualize the target of the investigation.
