BRUSSELS, Kingdom of Belgium, February 19, 2013/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- MEP Barbara Lochbihler (Greens/EFA, DE), chair of the EP Human Rights Subcommittee receives Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, chair of the African Union Commission on behalf of EP President Martin Schulz. A press point will be organised at the end of the meeting, on Wednesday February 20, at 15.30 PHS, 3rd floor (in the area of the hemicycle).


The Subcommittee on Human Rights will hold a public hearing on Human Rights in the African Union on Thursday, February 21, 09:15 - 10:15, ASP 3G3). The hearing can be followed here.


Background

Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has been elected chair of the African Union Commission in July 2012. Between 1994 and 2012 she held several ministerial positions in South Africa. The African Union is currently preparing a big summit for mid-May to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the organisation, previously know as the Organisation of African States.
