Sudan: UN independent human rights expert launches mission to Khartoum and Darfur

GENEVA, Switzerland, February 4, 2013/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The United Nations Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in the Sudan, Mashood Adebayo Baderin, will undertake his second visit to the Sudan from 3 to 10 February 2013.


“During my eight-day mission, I will focus primarily on assessing and verifying the situation of human rights in the Sudan in order to determine the technical assistance and capacity building needs of the Sudanese Government,” said the rights expert.


Mr. Baderin, who visits the Sudan at the invitation of the Government, will travel to Khartoum and Darfur, where he will meet with Government officials, civil society actors, members of the diplomatic Corps and UN agencies.


At the end of his visit, the Independent Expert will release a press statement with his main findings, as well as his preliminary observations and recommendations.


Mr. Baderin will present his findings and recommendations in a comprehensive report to the UN Human Rights Council in September 2013.
