Pension scam: Police Declare Maina Wanted

By The Citizen

Yielding to pressure from the National Assembly, the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force yesterday declared the chairman of Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdujrasheed Maina, wanted.

Maina had been invited severally by the Senate Joint Committee on Establishment and States and Local Governments investigating pension administration in the country.

The chairmen of the joint committee, Senators Aloysius Etuk and Kabiru Gaya had reported to the leadership of the Senate that Maina refused to honour their summon but Maina had explained that he was on his way to appear before the committee a couple of weeks ago only to be blocked by some protesters and by the time he finally gained access to the National Assembly, the committee had risen.

A statement issued by the Deputy Public Relations Officer, Frank Mbah Friday declared Maina wanted.

The statement reads in part: 'The Nigeria Police Force hereby declares wanted, this 1st day of February, 2013, Alhaji Abdulrasheed Maina of the Customs, Immigration and Prisons Pension Office (CIPPO), for failing to appear before the Senate Joint Committee on the Investigation of Pension Funds.

'It will be recalled that the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria had on 13th December, 2012, issued a Warrant of Arrest, mandating the Inspector-General of Police to arrest and produce Alhaji Maina before the Senate Joint Committee on the Investigation of Pension Fund.  Since then, the subject has gone into hiding, making it difficult for the Police to execute the warrant.
