Police foil bank robbery in Lagos

There was a shoot-out, yesterday, between a team of policemen and a 12-man robbery gang who attempted to  break into the Elemoro branch of one of the first generation banks, along Epe road, Lagos.

However, the robbers, reportedly fled the scene abandoning their operational vehicle and house breaking implements.

The bandits  as gathered, stormed the bank at about 2am and scaled into the compound through  the fence. They were said to have been  at the verge of breaking the Automated Teller Machine, ATM when policemen from Elemoro, led by the Area J Commander, Mr Felix  Vwamhi, who received a distress call, swopped on them, thereby leading to a  gun duel.

The robbers according  to  the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, ' bowed to the superior fire of the policemen. Some of them escaped with bullet wounds.

'At the end of the shoot- out, two AK 47 riffles, cutlasses, gas cylinders with which they intended breaking the ATM machine were recovered. Also recovered was their operational vehicle, a Sienna space bus.
