The Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu on Tuesday said that 2013 would yield the dividends of democracy, peace and prosperity.

The lawmaker, in his New Year message in Abuja, said that enough groundwork had been laid for the actualisation of the Transformation Agenda of the Federal Government and for surmounting the challenges facing the nation.

He said, 'With the early passage of the 2013 budget, more maturity on the path of institutions of governance and a greater sense of responsibility, love, unity, and patriotism among Nigerians; I have no doubt that the future is bright for the nation, despite the present challenges.'

Ekweremadu whose message was conveyed through a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Uche Anichukwu, said the National Assembly would go beyond the passage of the 2013 budget to lay emphasis on oversight of the institutions of governance to ensure implementation for the benefit of the masses.

He urged the people to pray for the peace and prosperity of the nation.

The Deputy Senate President wished Nigerians a happy and prosperous New Year.
