PRINCE TONYE PRINCEWILL CALLS FOR ACTION TO HELP RIVERS STATE ORPHANS AS 'NNENDA' PREMIERES IN PORT HARCOURT

Prince Tonye Princewill the Leader of Rivers State AC and Forum of the Organised Opposition Political Parties (FOOPP) in Rivers State on 12th September in Port Harcourt was visibly shaken when he visited the Life Caring Orphanage Home, Port Harcourt to behold firsthand the deplorable conditions in which the orphans are raised. The visit was part of a series of activities leading to the world wide premiere of the Movie 'Nnenda' scheduled to hold later in the day. The Prince was accompanied on the visit by Adonijah Owiriwa, acclaimed Producer of the movie.


On a tour of the facility, Prince Tonye Princewill acknowledged the large heartedness of the Management of the home for providing succour for these disadvantaged children. He however expressed dissatisfaction at the available options for care at the home. His sentiments where shared by other dignitaries in attendance.


He made a commitment to spearhead a move among his vast network of friends, businesses and government that would hopefully change the fortunes of the home and most importantly secure alternative accommodation since the present location has been earmarked for demolition.


In the course of the visit, Prince Tonye had the opportunity to interact with the children. He joined them for breakfast, much to the amusement of the kids and at the end organised an impromptu quiz contest, presenting prizes to winners at the end. He later presented Gifts and an undisclosed amount of money to the management of the home.


Evangelist Newton Nwikegha who received the Rivers State AC Leader on behalf of Rev. Lucky Abaadam, President of the Home expressed his delight at the memorable visit. He thanked Prince Tonye for his commitment to the home and promised a judicious use of the funds provided. He also expressed appreciation of the decision to take some of the children to attend the movie premiere.


Later in the day, Prince Tonye Princewill in the company of Dr. Davies Ibiamu, Chairman of FOOPP in Rivers State; Adonijah Owiriwa, Producer of the 'Nnenda' movie; Mr. Ramsey Noah, Star Actor of the Movie; Izu Ojukwu , Director of the movie; Uti Nwachukwu of the Big Brother Africa fame and other dignitaries, accompanied the Representative of the Rivers State Governor, Hon. Commissioner for culture and Tourism Hon. Marcus Ejil, to attend the epoch making event.

Hon Ejil who arrived the premiere from the ongoing Strategic Retreat of key officials of the Rivers State Government, stated that the Governor was unavoidably absent due to the exigencies of the Retreat. He stated His Excellency's willingness to send him in his stead for the event, proves government's commitment to the issues of the less-privileged and disadvantaged including orphans. He conveyed the governor's decision to appoint a Commissioner for the Social Welfare Ministry, with a mandate that includes proposing relevant amendments to the existing welfare laws for presentation the State House of Assembly for enactment that will revolutionise services and make the less-privileged a core recipient in the provision of quality service and dividends to democracy. He commended Prince Tonye Princewill for this worthy gesture of attracting Government to the plight of this group of our people by organising this premiere of the movie 'Nnenda'.

Prince Tonye Princewill who earlier welcomed the guests to the event, commended Adonijah Owiriwu, Producer of the movie for his concern for the orphans through producing such a movie to highlight the plight of their majority. In his remarks, Prince Tonye regretted that “in the face of development and rapid expansion, the society has left behind its most vulnerable human capital, 'its orphans' “. He referred to them as “that distinguished group in society who despite the odds stacked against them have survived... in a world where dog eats dog, little puppies have no say”.. He called on everyone to rise up to our collective responsibility towards them. Today we say no. No to the neglect of years gone by, no to the inability to reach out and touch and no to a bleak future for these brave souls.

The premiere featured the screening of the movie followed by the rendition of a beautiful song by the children of Life Time Caring Orphanage Home assisted by the Adonijah Owiriwa.

The busy day of the Prince ended with his attendance as Chair at the formal launch and public presentation of the Quill Magazine- a youth oriented magazine- at the Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt. In a motivational speech at the occasion he urged the youths in attendance to team up and make the positive change necessary for our polity to thrive. He used himself as an example, stating that his decision to join politics was borne out of a passion to see things change after witnessing with shock and marked discontent the Buguma crisis of 2003.

He commended the Publisher of the Quill Magazine, Mr. Rex David for coming up with such a brilliant initiative and promised to collaborate with him to make the magazine the magazine to beat in Nigeria. Marvin Yobana, Vice President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria also in attendance, formally adopted the magazine as the official magazine of the South-South Youths.
