FG TO LAUNCH APPEAL FUND FOR NIGERIAN LEGION

By NBF News

Federal government may organise a second appeal fund next month for the Nigerian legion in order to strengthen its activities.

The Minister of State for Defence, Erelu  Olusola Obada, who made this known in Abuja, yesterday, at a press conference to commence activities for next year's Armed Forces Remembrance Day said that the fund was needed for those who laid down their lives to keep the nation united.

Erelu Obada said that the Nigerian legion, like their counterparts in western countries should be the pride of the nation and should be catered for by all citizens of this country.

According to her, the essence of today is to discuss the 2013 edition of the armed forces remembrance day. Government has always had the retired military men in mind which is the reason for an emblem appeal fund designed specifically to reposition ex-servicemen and make them succeed in retirement.  To this end, the President and Commander-in-Chief will be launching the emblem on December 11.

While stressing why it was important for the country to build a strong and indivisible sovereign nation, she also urged Nigerians to support the fallen heroes and veterans by contributing to their welfare.
