Gov. Peter Obi said that permanent secretaries are the engine of civil service in the country and must be provided with adequate tools to carry out their work and motivate others to great action. He said this while presenting 21 brand new vehicles to the Permanent Secretaries in the civil service of Anambra State, including old ones and those that were newly appointed.

The Governor also disclosed that the Government is working out modalities to extend car loans to directors and Deputy Directors and other support that would motivate the entire gamut of the civil service for increased efficiency and productivity.

Speaking further, the Governor called on workers to reciprocate Government's gestures of love by joining hands in the building of a better society for the children of the State.

Responding, the Head of Service of the State, Mr. Chidi Exeoke expressed gratitude to God for what he called “the gift of Peter Obi to Anambra State”, describing him as the most worker-friendly Governor. He recalled that he was a Permanent Secretary in 2006 when Obi took over and never had official vehicle until he became the Governor and that the story is the same with all the groups in the State, including Judges and Magistrates. “These days we speak not in terms of having got new vehicles, but how many times it has been changed,' he submitted.

He assured the Governor of workers loyalty and promises of increased productivity. “Our prayers is for God to give us somebody better than him or at least as good as he is,” he concluded.
