NLC Threatens FG Over Workers’ Demands

President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar, leading other labour leaders from the North West zone,yesterday in Kano , threatened to ground the machinery of government in the country if workers' demand are not met.

The NLC is demanding the full implementation of Justice Muhammad Uwais electoral reforms, a stop to the deregulation of oil sector and implementation of N52, 250 minimum wage for workers without further delay.

While addressing a mammoth crowd during a 10-kilometre peaceful demonstration walk which culminated at the Kano Government House, he castigated the leadership style of governments in the country, saying officials of governments at various levels were bastardising the country for their selfish ends.

According to Omar , “we will not hesitate to ground this country to a halt and make Nigeria totally ungovernable for President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua if he continues to remain adamant to our demands which reflect the feelings of Nigerian masses.”

Omar said that the only panacea for this country, is for the people of Nigeria to float a “masses party” that will be similar to that of the late Malam Aminu Kano that will fight those he described as rogues masquerading as genuine leaders in the country.

“Our leaders have been disgracing this country, and we will not allow them to continue, because they are liars and thieves who do not want the NLC to enlighten the people about their criminality, when ever the labour leaders threatened to protest,” he said.

The labour leader then called on Yar'Adua not to deregulate the oil sector, saying that is the only thing the masses of this country are enjoying, pointing out that the other two basic issues that is contained in the letter to be delivered to him by Governor Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano State on the electoral reform and the minimum wage should be implemented for the benefit of Nigerians.
