Huhuonline.com can report that President Goodluck Jonathan has invested a committee with a responsibility to search for best 100 first-class students in Nigerian Universities for immediate scholarships to study abroad.

President Jonathan however directed the newly inaugurated 10-man Special Committee on Scholarship for Best Brains committee not to depend on the quota system in the selection process.

The committee is expected to select the best 100 first-class students in some specialized courses such as the sciences, engineering and economics from universities in the country and expose them to the best facilities in the world.

Beneficiaries of the scholarship, according to the President, would be made to lecture for the first five years in the nation's institutions after their graduation.

The President, who decried the dearth of academics in the nation's tertiary institutions, where only 60 percent of lecturers are doctorate degree holders, said there was need for a drastic change.

The committee is headed by the executive secretary of the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Julius Okojie.
