OKADA OPERATOR DOCKED FOR IMPERSONATION

LAGOS - A 26-year-old commercial motorcycle operator, commonly called Okada,  Abubakar Usman, has been arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate's Court, Lagos, for allegedly presenting himself as a soldier with fake military identity card.

The accused was said to have identified himself as a soldier, when he was quizzed by policemen in front of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, on May 1, leading to his arrest.

According to the charge, the accused tendered a military identity card with number 09621582, which turned out to be fake. He is facing one count of impersonation, though he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Trial magistrate, Mr B. Sonuga, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. In another development, an Ikeja High Court, Lagos, has granted bail to a 58-year-old Pentecostal archbishop, John Okeke, who allegedly stole property of his church members, valued at N7 million.

Dismissing the objection of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to the accused's bail application, trial judge, Justice Aishat Opesanwo, granted him bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum.

The court said, 'The accused is hereby granted bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum. One of the sureties must be a civil servant not lower than grade level 14, while the other surety must own a landed property in Lagos State.'
