Security men attached to the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, at the weekend clashed with smugglers during his tour of Ipokia and Yewa South Local Government Areas of the state. The incident occurred along the popular Idi-Iroko- Sango Road on his way from Ipokia Local Government Area to Ilaro, headquarters of Yewa South Local Government.

All was well during the tour until some smugglers menacingly drove into his convoy at Ajegunle area of the border town. The car smugglers in an attempt to escape from the Customs who were pursuing them suddenly drove into the governor's convoy and almost caused a serious accident. The move forced the chief security officer to the governor to fire several shots into the air to scare the hoodlums.

The confusion that followed made the smugglers' convoy to allegedly hit the governor's jeep, which made the vehicle swerve dangerously to the other side of the road.

Despite the fact that, no fewer than five of the smugglers' vehicles were badly damaged, the smugglers remained undaunted and had to force their way into the governor's convoy which subsequently led them to Ilaro, the headquarters of Yewa South Local Government.

Meanwhile, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), in Ipokia Local Government Area had accused the party leadership of insensitivity to the welfare of their executive in the local government. The Publicity Secretary of the party in Ipokia Local Government, Mr Hunkunchi Edward said this while reacting to the governor's recent visit to the local government area.
