Bomb Explosion Rocks Catholic Church In Niger State

A bomb explosion has ripped through St Theresa Catholic church in Madalla, Niger State,  killing some and injuring many of the parishioners   who had attended Sunday morning   Christmas   service .

Unconfirmed report put the death toll at 18. But spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency, Yushau Shuaib, who confirmed the attack, refused to give the exact figure of casualties. He explained that his colleagues were making frantic efforts to assist the victims.

"There are casualties, but we can't talk about figures for now," he said.

  No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, however, some of the worshippers who survived the ordeal, has fingered the dreaded Islamic group, Boko Haram.

According to them, the congregation was inside the church celebrating Christmas at the time of the blast.

'The impact of the heavy blast tore the church which instantly went up in flame'.

The recent attack is coming few days after the sect warned Nigerians and their leaders to be ready for more attacks.

In a Christmas message to the government, the group said it was ready to continue its fight against the government while warning Nigerians to be careful.
