YULETIDE: HOW TO REDUCE ROAD ACCIDENTS -FRSC

By NBF News

The Ogun State Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) sector commander, Mr. Oyeniyi Adeboye, has cautioned motorists not only to drive with care, but obey all traffic rules and laws during the Yuletide and the new year.

The Commander gave the warning during a one-day sensitization workshop for commercial drivers in Abeokuta, the state capital.

He warned commercial drivers not to engage in any act that could endanger passengers as well as other road users, stressing that “ we all have right to the roads and we must respect that''.

The FRSC officer who said the commission would not compromise its stands on safety during the festive period also identified proper maintenance of vehicles, day-light traveling, and observances of traffic rules and laws among others as factors that could reduce accident rate on high ways.

His words: “We are also begging you not to take alcohol because your own lives and that of others may depend on your composure while driving, “he said.

Also speaking, the Zonal Commander of the commission, Garuba Danjuma, solicited the understanding of commercial drivers during “ Ember Months“.

Represented by Christopher Ademoluti, Danjuma said that safety should not be left in the hands of the commission alone, saying that “ safety is everybody's duty and we must be up to it.

“Over-loading is one of the major problem we have and we must all know that it is a risk to over load our vehicles, let me use this medium to inform you that we will not condone this.

“When you over load, you put the engine, piston, tire and other parts of the vehicle under undue burden,“ he warned.

Responding, Secretary of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Ogun, Mr Steve Falusi, promised to enlighten members on the need to observe safety during the festive periods and beyond.
