UNAMID Celebrates Human Rights International Day

Human Rights International Day, commemorated globally on December 10, was celebrated in El Fasher, North Darfur as a joint event of the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) and the North Darfur Bar Association under the theme: “Respect the rights of others, preserve your rights.”

UNAMID Police Commissioner James Oppong-Boanuh read out a message from UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon. UNAMID's Head of Human Rights Ms. Marie Therese Keita emphasized the need to increase the access of the disabled in Darfur to health care and education. “We should next year be able to assess and evaluate what we have done for the disabled in Darfur.”

UNAMID patrols

UNAMID military conducted 172 patrols including routine, short-range, long-range, night and humanitarian escort patrols covering 113 villages and internally displaced persons (IDP) camps. UNAMID Police advisors conducted 112 patrols in villages and IDP camps.
