CAF NOMINATES OKOCHA FOR LEGEND AWARD

Nigerian ex-international and former Captain of Super Eagles, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, former African Women Player of the Year, Perpetua Nkwocha and Super Eagles winger, Ahmed Musa of VVV Venlo of Holland have been nominated for other categories segment of the 2011 GLO-CAF Awards.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) released the list of nominees on Wednesday in Cairo.

The list which was compiled through a vigorous exercise by CAF took into account the performance of the nominees from January to November, 2011.

Okocha was nominated together with Moroccan ex-international, Mustapha Hadji, for the Legend Award, while Perpetua, who distinguished herself at the last African women championship in South Africa, was nominated for Women Footballer of the Year.

Ahmed Musa, a very resourceful Nigerian player, who played for the Under-20 team, Flying Eagles at the last World Cup in Colombia, and also featured for both the National Under-23 side and the Super Eagles at various times was nominated for Most Promising Talent of the Year Award. The winners will be announced at the Awards Gala on Thursday, December 22, at the Banquet Hall, State House, Accra.

The City of Accra is already agog with excitement as it prepares to host the event with the nominated award winners, especially Ghanaian players on the list forming the subject of discussion among football fans and youth across the city. It will be the third time the Ghanaian capital will be hosting the annual event after 2006 and 2009.

The nominees (in alphabetical order) include: National Team of the Year: (a) Botswana (b) Cote d'Ivoire (c) Libya (d) Niger (e) Tunisia (CHAN Team). Women's National Team of the Year: (a) Cameroon (b)Nigeria (c)South Africa Club of the Year: (a) Esperance (Tunisia) and MAS Fes (Morocco).
