OGUN EAST PDP LEADERS PLEAD WITH NWC
The elders and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State have appealed to the acting National Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje and other members of the National Working Committee (NWC) not to encourage actions that could divide the party.
They spoke in Ijebu-Ode at the end of a meeting presided over by the Chairman of the Ogun East PDP Elders' Forum, Alhaji Agboola Alausa.
The elders resolved to expand the forum to accommodate more members; inaugurate a youth forum and Committee on Mobilisation, Strategy and Publicity for the party in the senatorial district.
They also resolved to woo former PDP members, who defected to other parties to return and partake in the ongoing membership registration.
On the activities of some estranged party members, who are seeking to cause disaffection within its fold, the elders said: 'We urge the Acting National Chairman and the other members of the NWC not to allow factions in Ogun State. Those parading themselves as PDP members and yet working for the opposition should be put where they belong. Some of them are working for the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), others for the Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN).
'Even in the forthcoming local government elections, they are sponsoring candidates under these platforms against the PDP in Ijebu North, Ijebu Ode, Ijebu East and Odogbolu Local Government Areas. How can they be doing this and still be loitering around the national leadership of the party? Thankfully, the last time they sought to see the acting National Chairman, they were bounced. By this action, our leaders have shown clearly that they are not dumb.'
The elders said the PDP in the state was one under the leadership of its governorship candidate in the April elections, Chief Adetunji Olurin and the state Chairman, Chief Dayo Soremi.
'But for the activities of the few dissidents, who are bent on causing disaffection within the party, we do not have any problem in the Ogun State PDP. Chief Olurin is our state leader, just as Prince Buruji Kashamu is our leader in Ogun East and Senator Kola Bajomo is the leader in Ogun West.
