AFRICA'S FIRST FEMALE ADMIRAL LISTS DISCIPLINE, FAITH, INTEGRITY AS KEY TO SUCCESS

Bowen University, Iwo, at the weekend launched its 6th set of graduates into life at the weekend with the lucky graduands being handed golden nuggets to success and fulfillment by the first female Rear Admiral by the Nigerian Navy, Itunu Hutonu. Admiral Hotonu, in a lecture entitled 'Stepping Out,' Faith, Discipline and Strength of Character,' identified these virtues including humility, diligence, vision as well as hard work as the hallmarks of any successful individual.

The lecture was part of the convocation ceremony held at the university's campus in Iwo, Osun State at the weekend. It had in audience renowned industrialist and Pro-Chancellor of the institution, Dr Gamaliel Onosode; the General Secretary of the Nigerian Baptist Convention and Visitor of the university , Revd Samson Olasupo Ayokunle,Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. T.O Olagbemiro, vice chancellor of the University of Uyo, senior academics, students and parents.

Drawing from her life experiences, Admiral Hotonu, herself an achiever and trail blazer, with an inspiring record of many 'firsts' told the gathering that she was an example of a Nigerian, without any so-called godfather, but, who with God as father subdued all odds and challenges by simply having faith in Almighty God and applying the principles enunciated above. She urged the graduates that emulating these values was the best way they could protect their parents' investment in their future.
