TRIBUNAL: ZAMFARA GOV KNOWS FATE TODAY

By NBF News

Gusau-The Zamfara Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has fixed today for judgment on PDP petition against the election of Governor  Abdul-Aziz Yari, the ANPP candidate.

The tribunal's Secretary, Hajiya Hannatu Bello, told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN,  Thursday, in Gusau that the judgment would be delivered at 9 a.m.

NAN reported that PDP had filed a petition challenging the return of Yari as the duly-elected governor on the grounds of alleged election irregularities.

PDP lead counsel, Otunba Kunle Kalejaiye, SAN, had said that election irregularities in six local government areas of the state contravened the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010, as amended.

Kalejaiye, who was closing his case, said the irregularities were enough grounds for the nullification of the election.

He, therefore, urged the tribunal to void the election of Yari and declare former Gov. Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi of PDP as the winner of the April poll.

ANPP lead counsel, Alhaji Yusuf Alli, SAN, who said the petitioner had not established concrete evidence to prove his case, urged the tribunal to dismiss the petition and uphold Yari's election.
