LAGOS - ORGANISED Labour in the nation's textile industry has petitioned Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State over the continuous closure of United Textile, UNT Plc,  Ikorodu, by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA.

Under the umbrella of the National Union of Textile, Garment, Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, NUTGTWN, Labour lamented that UNT Plc, which currently employs over 3,000 direct workers was shut down since July 26 by officials of LASEPA over alleged environmental pollution of the community river.

General Secretary of the union, Mr Issa Aremu in the petition, appealed to Gov.Fashola to intervene with a view to ensuring the immediate reopening of the company.

He said: 'As a union and affiliate of NLC, we had at various fora acknowledged and saluted you (Fashola) for your administration's untiring effort in all aspects of development of Lagos State.

It is against this background that we urgently appeal to you to use your good offices to quickly intervene with a view to ensuring the immediate reopening of the company.'
