Uduaghan to create Public Works Department

Delta State governor Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan has created a new Public Works Department in the state to enable his administration fast track the reconstruction and rehabilitation of infrastructure and creates jobs for youths.

Dr  Uduaghan who announced this at an interactive session with journalists in the state said the new public  works department will handle sensitive issues  especially  quick repairs of  infrastructures.

He explained that the functions of the department will not clash with that of Direct Labour agency (DLA) as both bodies would have their exclusive duties.

His words “The new works department will handle emergency rehabilitation and create jobs for the youths. Its functions will not clash with that of the Direct Labour Agency in the state.

The governor enjoined Deltans not to see the new Works Department only in the light of roads rehabilitation as it will go beyond that and intervene in many other areas.

Dr Uduaghan also announced government determination to destroy all illegal structures in the state.

He disclosed that many illegal structures were blocking the drains and natural water ways and vowed that no amount of blackmail will prevent him from carrying out the action.

The governor said those blocking the drains and natural water ways would be prosecuted to serve as deterent to other offenders.

“We are going to destroy illegal structures and no one will intimidate me. In fact no amount of blackmail will prevent me from removing illegal structures.

Dr Uduaghan in answer to a question promised to streamline all government accounts in the banks.

 
He said Ministries and departments in the state opened several accounts in different banks and disclosed that the accounts will be streamlined because some departments opened as many as fifty accounts.

Explaining further he said “Most Ministries and departments opened accounts in several banks and there is not much in these account so I am going to streamline the accounts to make them meaningful”.

The governor reiterated his administration's commitment towards the rehabilitation of the Eku hospital to make it one of the best in the country.

While promising he will continue to promote affordable and accessible health care delivery, Dr.  Uduaghan said that the rehabilitation of Eku hospital will fast track the health programme.

He therefore enjoined Deltans to take advantage of the health programme to have robust health.

The governor also used the occasion to disclose that the state government will purchase one 1,000 18 seater buses, to boost intercity transport system in the state.
