By Tunji Oluwasanmi

A Non Governmental Organisation in Ekiti State, the Ekiti Justice Group (EJG) has raised alarm over plot by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the State to tamper with voting materials, especially ballot papers used during the House of Assembly election in Ekiti East Local Government (Constituency II).

The ACN and its candidate in the election, Anthonia Alaba Omolusi are challenging the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Mr. Afolabi Samuel in the election.

The EJG alleged in a release signed by its National Coordinator, Dr.

Tunji Oluwasanmi, that the ACN and some of its leaders, who are desperate to upturn the election result have concluded plans to tamper with ballot papers used during the election in an operation similar to “voting after voting.”

Dr Oluwasanmi said a top official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the State has been approached on the plot and “negotiation is now on as to the cost of carrying out the operation.”

“We are compelled to raise this alarm owing to the antecedent of the ACN and its leaders regarding achieving electoral victories through the back door.

“The ACN as a party is noted for Ibo lehin ibo (voting after voting) and it was with this strategy that it secured victory for the Ekiti Central Senatorial seat at the Appeal Court.

“Therefore, this time around, we wish to alert the public and also let the INEC official that is willing to collaborate with the ACN in this devilish plot that we are watching!

“The ACN leaders that are carrying their desperation to snatch one the only two PDP seats in the House of Assembly through the back door should also know that this time around, Ekiti people will be more vigilant,” EJG said.
