JEGA URGED TO PURGE INEC OF BAD EGGS

By NBF News

A group, Nsukka Democratic League, has called on the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Attahiru Jega to consolidate the success he recorded in the last general election by purging the commission of bad eggs.

The group cautioned that the image of the apex electoral body would be rubbished if some officers of the commission were still left within its fold.

Speaking in a telephone chat with Sunday Sun, the group's National President, Ugonna Ugwuoke particularly expressed lack of confidence in the Political Party Monitoring Department of the Independent Electoral Commission, Enugu, over its interest with regards to the last primary election in Enugu North Senatorial zone. The league wondered why the Commission should allow itself to descend into the arena of conflict in the matter concerning PDP primaries in Enugu North Senatorial Zone.

According to the group, it took exception to the affidavit which claimed that widely advertised and conducted primary election of January 9 - 11, 2011 did not take place in Enugu North Senatorial Zone but on January 20, 2011.

It called on Prof. Jega to 'institute an enquiry into the conduct of primary election in Enugu North Senatorial Zone with a view to finding out who authorized INEC, Enugu, to monitor a re-run election on January 20 outside INEC deadline.
