The protracted battle between Governor Gbenga Daniel of Ogun State and the leadership of the People's Democratic Party(PDP) in that state is becoming interesting by the day.

Daniel who parted ways with his party after he lost out during the primaries, bankrolled the setting up of People's Party of Nigeria ( PPN). He has openly taken shots at the PDP candidate, Gen. Tunji Olunrin, and Gen Olusegun Obasanjo, and campaigned against the PDP during the last Assembly polls.

The PDP had tried on two occasions to reconcile both flanks but failed. First, he and other gladiators were hosted by President Goodluck Jonathan, and last Tuesday, Jonathan's Chief of Staff, Mike Ogiadomen tried to reconcile them in vain.

Pointblanknews .com sources hinted that Furious Obasanjo, whose daughters' loss he partially blames on Daniel's shenanigans, has asked Jonathan to stop pleading with Daniel.

It was learnt that Jonathan and some top PDP wigs are talking tough .

According to our source, Obasanjo and co want Jonathan to unleash the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) on Daniel and ensure he gets no soft landing.

Meanwhile , Daniel whose tenure has been dogged by strings of alleged fraud, is insisting Olunrin dumps his running mate, Tunji Oladunjoye and allow him , Daniel fill the spot with his crony. He also wants Jonathan to guarantee him a very lucrative ministerial position, But the President has said he can't guarantee such.

In 2010, as chairman Said the source" Daniel wants to pick Olunrin's running mate. He also wants a top ministerial slot. Don't forget Oladunjoye was the one who dragged Daniel to the EFCC over illegal deductions"

In a petition in July 2010, Oladunjoye who was chairman Ijebu East, had petitioned the EFCC alleging illegal deduction by Daniel. He had alleged that in November 2009, of N1.8 billion allocated monthly to the councils, Daniel released N738 million.

Daniel is also alleged to have compromised his state law makers who approved a multi million dollar loan that may have ended up in private accounts.

Olunrin had also told all who cared to listen he would ensure all those who stole government funds are sent to prison.

Pointblanknews .com sources hinted that Daniel could get a soft landing in the hands if the anti graft commission .

Said the source " the President will not stop his prosecution but may offer him soft landing... But Obasanjo says they should stop negotiating with Daniel. So if the Daniel flank throws the spanner, he could make himself very vulnerable to large scale probe with no room for manoveur."
