AWKA, April 02, (THEWILL) - Senatorial candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria and former governor of Anambra State, Dr Chris Ngige has urged his supporters to discard rumours that he has withdrawn from the Senatorial race, blaming his rivals for spreading falsehood.

Unsolicited text messages were sent randomly to mobile phone numbers in the state yesterday saying Ngige had stepped down for one of his opponents in the race, incumbent Senator Annie Okonkwo of the Accord Party.

"Beloved, after careful consideration of events of last weeks, I will no longer run for the senate for Anambra Central but support Annie Okonkwo of Accord Party.

“Dr. Ngige," the text purportedly sent by Ngige stated.

Anambra Central Senatorial zone also has former NAFDAC boss and ex Information Minister Dora Akunyili as senatorial candidate of the APGA party.

But during a chat with journalists in his Alor, Idemili South Local Government mansion, Ngige who said he also received the text message expressed shock and disappointment at the act calling it, "absurd, deplorable, and communication gangsterism." He berated his opponent in the race for stooping so low just to get elected into public office.

He however urged voters in the state to discountenance the message, saying, “I am still very much in the race and I am running to win."
