2011 Polls: Assess Us on Our Performances – Amaechi

Governor Amaechi has enjoined Princewill Political Associates to assass the various contestants for the office of the Governor of Rivers State in the April 2011 general elections based on their performances while he was the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The governor gave the charge recently when he received a mammoth crowd of Princewill Political Associates (PPA) representatives drawn from various Local Government Areas LGA as well as the Hausa and Yoruba Community resident in Rivers State, Forum of Opposition Political Parties, Professional Group, Religious group among others who stormed the government house en masse to thank him for his good works and to support him for his second term bid.

Addressing the crowd, Governor Amaechi said, “Assess us on our performances. Don't assess us as Governors. Assess us when I was the Speaker of House of Assembly and find who performed and who did not perform”

He said at the time he was the Speaker, their was peace and people were not shooting guns nor being killed in his Local Government Area while the reverse was the case in the LGA of his unnamed political contestants.

“In their own Local Government Areas, people were being killed and people who kill cannot be part of government because the first oath of office of the governor is to protect life and property”, Governor Amaechi said.

He charged the group to vote wisely.

He explained that it was poverty that propelled him to give free primary and secondary school education to pupils and students attending public schools in Rivers state, while reiterating his government commitment to fund free healthcare adding that free books, sandals, school uniforms and bags are being provided by his government to lessen the financial burden of parents whose children are in public schools.

In order to encourage PPA, the governor gave the group the sum of 5 million naira from the coffers of his campaign organization which generated resounding ovation from PPA members.

From the leader of PPA, Prince Tonye Princewill, the chairman of PPA, Hon. Davies Ibiamu, the Commissioner of Urban Development, Hon. Osima Ginah, the women leader of PPA, Dr. Mrs. Edith Wele to all the representatives of the local governments, the Hausa and Yoruba Community, the professional group, religious bodies etc in one accord thanked Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi for his achievements and declared their overwhelming support for him, saying the will vote for him at the election day.

Earlier during the commissioning of Princewill Political Associates (PPA) secretariat, located at 268 Aba Road, Port Harcourt and unveiling of billboards for Amaechi 2011 campaigns, Prince Tonye Princewill said PPA was working with Amaechi to ensure his reelection as both PDP members and non members were in PPA.

Princewill noted that the group has attracted various associations and at some point in the future may no longer exists as its members can be assimilated into broader governance.

Commenting on one of the inscriptions on the billboard that reads, “Amaechi is not perfect, but let us make it perfectly clear, he has done very well”, Princewill said he is not a sychophant who sees everything as good even though there may be contrary views.

According to him, “the man (Amaechi) is not perfect, but he has done well, he is less than 100 %.
